Busy busy busy

I've been so busy I haven't had a moment to breathe, let alone write here.

Let's see, I am in my second week of culinary classes, and loving it! It is a little overwhelming in the homework department, especially the Safety and Sanitation and Survey classes. I have about ten chapters to read in the text books right now. I also have yet to buy one of the books, so i am a little worried about falling behind but I haven't had time to go to the bookstore since my classes are M-F 7:30-6:00pm. I may be able to borrow one from Joshu (a guy in most of my classes who has already finished the one I am missing a book for). He and I have been carpooling and cooking together a lot.

I absolutely love my baking class! I have made some incredible desserts, it almost feels like I am a natural, except I am slow so falling behind a bit in the assignments. I missed the first two days because the school had a printing error in the schedule, so while I am not being docked for the missed days, I do have to make up the work, and it is a very fast paced class so I am having trouble even keeping up with the current assignments so finding time to work on my make-ups is a struggle. HOWEVER, every item I have made has been beautiful and scrumptious!

I'll start taking photos soon. I will also take a photo of myself in the silly chef uniform. I feel like a cartoon character in it!

My weekend job is great so far. I work from Friday night at 10:00pm until Monday morning at 6:00am as an independent living counselor for two clients of an organization called Lifehouse. I have just worked one weekend and I liked it a lot. I drove Kasie and the live-in staff, Cynthia, on a thrift store shopping spree where I bought several glass pie pans for like a buck or two each. We need to bring our own pie pans to class if we want to bring our pies home, and who doesn't?

So, on to the exciting news--here's an excerpt from an email I got yesterday:
I talked with Paul and we decided that we definitely would like to hire you for our Cook position at SCC. Congratulations! We'll put together a more formal offer shortly. We finally heard from the State regarding our license and hope to be able to have everything in place to open in the August /September time frame. I'll keep you posted as we know more, and will let you know when we begin to plan for staff training.
Pretty fabulous, huh?! So yeah, I am a happy girl in general, even though there are other major changes afoot that are not so convenient. We decided not to buy Larry's house because it is just too expensive. Nearly $600,000 for a two bedroom/1 bath is insane, especially in this market. We could drive ten miles and find something for half the price that is larger inside. Much of the value of this house is in the land, and we are not even using it.

So the hunt is on! I just dread the actual moving, especially if it happens soon, I have literally NO free time!

I am not sure what I am going to do in the fall when the SCC job starts, if I am going to continue with Lifehouse or quit. I won't be able to take classes during the week days anymore, but maybe I can still do night classes. Not sure what classes will be available to me that are part of the culinary arts program, but we'll play it by ear. I am prepared for this to take a couple years. Maybe i can take the summer off next year for another cram session. Or maybe with this job I won't feel the need. We'll see!

I am excited.
